Wave Redux is an Intriguing, Chill-Inducing Game of Geometry

Wave Redux is the sort of game that’s all about flow. There are a number of different modes, some of which let you take things at your own pace, others that are all about playing at super speed. And on top of all that, it’s an awful lot of fun too.

The game mixes ideas from classics like Snake, as well as more modern gems like the hated Flappy Bird. It connects all of these together with a slick geometric art-style that’s lovely to look at and super easy to understand.

There’s a deep compulsion here thanks to the ease of play. You’ll often dip in for a short play only to look up, bleary eyed, to realise you’ve been tangling with the wave for hours.

The tougher game modes change up the control scheme. Here you’re swiping to move, and need to keep moving otherwise you’re going to die. You’re like a shark riding the wave, and you need to be precise otherwise you’ll crash into the scenery.

Wave Redux is one of those games that you can’t help but play with a smile on your face. It’s simple in all the right ways, and challenging enough to keep you engaged long after other mobile games would have lost their sparkle.
