The iFriday Roundup, No 51

Friday Freebies

Quite a few decent freebies to be found on the App Store this weekend! First up is Kylinworks’ Turret Commander (our review), which has had its price-tag obliterated in celebration of Moon Festival and Golden Week. Moving on, VisualDreams just launched a free version of their newest title for iOS, Linkies, while TheHermonApps are marking their 6 month anniversary by offering Guess That Flag for, you guessed it, nada. Also currently free and thoroughly recommended are: Gabagool Games’ crazy spin on tower defense Pet Wars HD and Frontier Developments’ acclaimed platformer LostWinds.

…Speaking of Free Games, ‘The Simpsons: Tapped Out’ Just Got a Scary Good Update!

From the press release: “This week, EA unveiled a major update to The Simpsons: Tapped Out featuring content from this Sunday’s The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horrors XXIII episode (Sunday, October 7 at 8/7 pm CDT on FOX). EA worked directly with The Simpsons award winning writers, producers and animators to integrate distinctive content between the TV show and game. As part of the update, game players will collect artifacts that help them unlock a trivia question about the episode. Then by watching the episode, they will see the answer which will help them complete an in-game quest”

Sales Roundup

OOTP Developments just dropped iFanzine a line to let us know the freshly updated iOOTP Baseball 2012 is now on sale for 99 cents (normally $4.99) this weekend, Oct. 5 through Oct. 7. Also on sale for 99 cents at the moment are Gameloft’s N.O.V.A. 3 – Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance and The Amazing Spider-Man — both of which are, well, pretty amazing and absolute bargains at that price!

‘God of Blades’ Update and Rumored Secret Weapon!

While we’re still slashing our way through God of Blades in preparation for a full iFanzine review, White Whale Games have already pushed out their first update. The update adds support for iPhone 5’s new resolution, fixes crashing and save problems on older devices and enables auto-rotation. Additionally, gobshrine.com — apparently an old website showcasing the God of Blades book series — has arisen. The site may possibly have some sort of riddle embedded in it that may possibly unlock a secret sword in God of Blades… folks on forums are already digging to crack the code. Will someone solve this mystery?

‘Gangs’ First Look!

Gangs is set to explode onto the App Store in December and OG International are cranking up the ol’ hype machine this week by releasing an official synopsis and a trio of preview screenshots for the game. Enjoy: “Following an economic collapse, your city has been reduced to a gang-ridden rat-race for survival, where territory and power are the only currency and justice is a distant memory. Assemble a dynamic band of freedom fighters and liberate your city from the threat of civil war. Recruit new gang members, hire powerful mercenaries and execute unique abilities to show your enemies the definition of anarchy. As the sun sets on civilized society, revolution is on the horizon.”
