‘Suicide Squad: Special Ops’ Is a Totally Killer Tie-In Game

Warner Bros’ upcoming summer tentpole Suicide Squad has its work cut out for it. Not only is the flick the follow-up to the critically maligned Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it’s also been tasked with introducing audiences to a new live action Joker (played by Jared Leto) in the wake of Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning turn as the character/tragic death.

I’m looking forward to Suicide Squad, though. In no small part due to how cool its Bohemian Rhapsody-scored trailer and other pre-release promotional stuff has been. As part of this ongoing marketing blitz, Warner Bros. recently launched a tie-in game for iOS, Suicide Squad: Special Ops. I tried it over the weekend and it’s very cool too.

Suicide Squad: Special Ops is a wave-based first-person shooter that lets you play as a trio of characters from the movie — Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Will Smith’s Deadshot, and Jay Hernandez’ El Diablo — as they run and gun their way through a battletorn cityscape. The gameplay is slick and frenetic, the graphics are surprisingly top notch, and best of all, it’s free! I mean properly free. There are no IAPs or ads whatsoever to be found here.

I’m actually genuinely taken aback by the quality of this promotional tie-in game (let’s be honest, they’re usually hastily thrown together and pretty lousy). It’s a fun, well-made FPS in its own right, and it should particularly appeal to anyone who’s excited about the Squad making their silver screen debut next month. Sound good to you?
