Songbringer is a Psychedelic Take on Zelda, Out Now for iPhone and iPad

Everyone knows the Zelda template these days. Explore dungeons, fight enemies, solve simple puzzles, get new equipment. Songbringer throws in some jokes, edible cacti and a sci-fi swagger to make something pretty darn interesting.

At the start of each game you’ll enter a six letter word. This determines the levels you’re going to face. That in itself would be unique enough to make Songbringer worth checking out, but it’s got a lot more going for it than that.

For one thing there’s the gorgeous graphics, all stringy sprites and chunky pixels. Then there’s the story, which revolves around reincarnation, exploration and a deadly ancient evil intent on wiping out the cosmos. There’s humor and heart here too, which is just as important.

We’ve embedded a trailer below so you can get an idea of what to expect from the game.

The game has been out on consoles and PC for a while, but this mobile version feels super slick. The controls are sharp, and the game is just the right size and shape for mobile sessions.

Click here and you can download Songbringer from the App Store right now. The first chunk of the game is free, which will give you a decent taster. Then there’s a $3.99 IAP to unlock the rest of the experience, which sounds pretty damn fair to us.

Have you played Songbringer? Are you going to pick up the mobile version? Are you excited to give it a go? Well, make sure you let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section at the bottom of this paragraph.
