Mech Battle has made quite an impact since it arrived at the end of last year. Djinnworks’s futuristic multiplayer shooter, which sees you piloting a giant walking tank among the ruins of civilization in a distant post-armageddon future, is as slick and polished as they come.
The gameplay involves fighting in 4v4 or battle royale-style winner-takes-all scraps before retiring to your hangar to spend your winnings on new mechs, new weapons, and upgrades to both.
The more you level up your mechs, the longer they’ll last and the more damage they’ll inflict on your hapless human enemies.
There are 15 different mechs to add to your collection, the first few pretty much functioning as extra lives in combat, since you can have a couple of extra mechs in reserve for when your first one dramatically explodes under fire.
And what explosions. Mech Battle is a gorgeous game, with pinsharp HD graphics running at 60fps on a modestly recent phone and a selection of highly atmospheric, beautifully drawn apocalyptic battlefields.
Players certainly seem to like it. In the handful of months since the game came out it’s been downloaded well over 50,000 times, accumulating an average review score of 4.5.
This glowing reception is partly down to the flurry of game-enhancing updates that Djinnworks has been feverishly putting out since the first release date.
There have been 20 so far, changing everything from the weapon balancing to the camera rotation. Reload animations have been added, along will kill streak announcements, and a number of tweaks have been applied so that you can hop into a rematch after a custom battle and so on.
More significantly, Djinnworks has added a whole extra map to the game, called Tunnel.
Better still, another new map has just been added via the 1.4.0 update. It’s called The Dome. It also adds clan support, plus accessibility options for color blind gamers.
