Interview With Akaoni Studio

Will Plus have an online multiplayer mode, or have you had to sacrifice the game’s multiplayer functions during the porting process?

Multiplayer will be implemented after the game launches. The necessary programming will take time, but we wanted to release as soon as possible, so this is the compromise. A small business can’t go long without releasing a game because it needs a revenue stream to survive. Rather than rush a poor quality game, we’d rather make a quality one that we can update with new features if its success merits the continued attention.

What’s the interface like — how will Plus’ game engine tell between an order to move the player character and an order to move the gun reticle, or to shoot for that matter?

Plus’ user interface allows the player a level of control that’s as good as, or even better than, the WiiWare version. Tilting moves the player character left and right, while holding a finger on the touchscreen and dragging around directs the player’s shots. You switch weapons with an onscreen icon, and swiping makes your character dodge. It’s a very simple interface made completely with iOS in mind.

Has the release of iOS 5 changed anything?

No, we’re continuing the project according to the original plan for now.

And finally, will Plus work on both the iPhone and iPad, or are you creating a separate app for each device?

Yes, from the beginning, the same app will play on both the iPhone and iPad.

Big thanks to Jose Iniguez, director of Akaoni Studio, for taking the time out to talk to us about Zombie Panic in Wonderland Plus! As we reported in our First Look, this one is currently slated to hit around Christmas if things go smoothly. While you’re checking out the first publicly released test footage of the game running on an iPhone 3GS below, keep an eye on Akaoni’s Facebook page, Twitter account, website, and Plus dev blog for the latest news!
