How would you survive without electricity? That’s the question that Powerless poses. After London is hit by a massive solar flare, the English capital is plunged into darkness. It’s up to you to make the right choices to survive in the aftermath. And right now you can pick the game up for less than a dollar.
There are 16 different challenges to complete in the game, ranging from creating a battery from scratch to fighting an injured gorilla. Different personas take part in the challenges, and you decide what they should do.
You can be a coward, a liar, or try and use bravery and intelligence to survive. Whatever you decide, you’re given a survival rating by the game’s AI. There are around a quarter of a million words of fiction here, so it’s fair to say there’s a lot to do in Powerless.
You’ll need to up your survival rating to unlock new adventures, which means you’re going to have to replay some sections and make different choices if you’ve messed things up. The message here is one about our reliance on power and technology, and it’s delivered in a really interesting way.
