Just when you think there isn’t any scope for innovation in the matching puzzler genre, something new comes along. This time it’s HighRise, which takes the foundations of match-stuff puzzling and uses them to build into the sky.
The game is all about creating a city. You’ve got a grid of spaces and a bunch of blocks. Put blocks of the same colour together and they’ll combine, making buildings. Your goal is to keep building, make more buildings and score as many points as you can.
There are some really interesting ideas here as well. It’s not just about matching colours, you need to match the number of blocks as well. There are different ways to do this, and figuring out the most effective is the key to success.
Sometimes you’ll be given piles of blocks with more than one colour to use, and you’ll need to think carefully about the best place to put them. Blocks of the same colour have to be touching if you’re going to combine them.
HighRise offers a rich variety of puzzling fun. It’s the sort of game that’s going to get you thinking in new ways, and there aren’t very many of those on the App Store right now.
