First Look: ‘When Ian Fell In The Machine’

Now here’s a pretty neat story. When Ian Fell In The Machine, The Bumpkin Brothers’ soon to be released follow-up to The Tribloos 2 (our review) – appropriately enoughcame about as the result of a happy accident. As the developers tell it, the gameplay idea behind WIFITM grew from a coding bug in another game, also featuring their Ian character. They then had so much fun playing around with this idea that they made it into a full-blown game.

The folks at Bumpkin Bros. describe WIFITM as a “delightfully macabre” “endless dropper” – think an even more warped, 2D version of Falling Fred, and you’re probably on the right track – and promise the game will feature a variety of difficulty levels, tons of achievements and unlockables, as well as endlessly addictive replay value. Which all sounds good to me!

Anyway, we don’t have to wait too much longer to find out whether WIFITM is as fun to play as The Bumpkin Brothers say it was to make, because the game is all set to hit the App Store next Thursday, August 8th.

Here’s the official synopsis and a trailer:

A02Lured by the promise of a free sausage (and who wouldn’t be?), you control our eponymous hero’s disembodied head as it rolls and tumbles down the inner workings of a fiendish machine, defying gravity and avoiding the increasingly devilish traps that await. It’s all wrapped up in a delightfully macabre wrapper that’s not for the faint-of-heart.

Three difficulty levels, clothing and equipment upgrades, built-in leaderboards and achievements, and skull-mincing cogs and spikes all combine to mean endlessly addictive replay value. How far can you drop before facing the inevitable…?

ETA: When Ian Fell In The Machine will roll onto the App Store Thursday 8th August, 2013, priced at $0.99. In the meantime, be sure to check out The Bumpkin Brothers’ official site and follow their Twitter feed for more info on this and other upcoming games.
