There are plenty of hardcore platformers on the App Store, but hardly any of them feature a duck as their main character. That’s one thing that Duck Souls has got going for it. It’s also absolutely brilliant, which is another, far more important thing.
You’re tasked with getting through a series of super-challenging, bite-sized levels, using simple controls. You can move left and right, jump and dash. There are all sorts of obstacles trying to kill you though, and they will. A lot.
But that’s okay, because failing is all part of the experience. It makes those moments when you get to a checkpoint all the more exhilarating. Which is, quite frankly, exactly what you’re looking for in a game like this.
The game has been out on PC for a while, but it makes the transition to touchscreen pretty much perfectly. If you’re looking for a game to thrill and frustrate in equal measure, then you could do a lot worse than trying this one out.
