Battle Divas: Slay Mecha Offers a Unique Twist on Gacha Summoning

Believe it or not, there was a time when it was possible to play an RPG – even a mobile RPG – without having to obtain new characters through a sort of lucky dip gacha system.

Battle Divas: Slay Mecha is a welcome return to that time. While the game does contain a gacha element, this is strictly to do with weapons. Every character in the game enters your company through good old gameplay progression.

The setting is the distant future. A nuclear war has rendered planet Earth uninhabitable, forcing the surviving global population to relocate to a huge space station called Icarus VI.

After a few decades, a handful of students from the Hero Academy are dispatched to Earth to check on the planet’s progress. They expect to find a happily recovering ecosystem, but instead they find terrible monstrosities.

That’s the setup, and you play as an intrepid vanguard of super-tough divas, hell-bent on pushing back the enemy scum and reclaiming their homeworld.

That means getting into a very large number of turn-based battles with squads of enemies and huge modular bosses. Battles are fought on grids, with you moving from point to point to ensure that your units are ideally situated for maximum impact.

As you’d expect, you’ve got ranged units, healers, assault units, and so on, so placement is everything.

The bosses, meanwhile, need to be taken down as efficiently as possible, so that you disable their skills and weaken their defences while chipping away at their health.

Battle Divas: Slay Mecha is also a multiplayer game, with a huge variety of PvP and PvE events on offer. These give you the perfect opportunity to showcase the weapons and equipment you’ve accumulated.

There are well over 400 different parts to collect, creating a huge amount of potential variation in your heroes’ abilities.

We can’t recall playing anything quite like Battle Divas: Slay Mecha. You can download it for free on Google Play and the App Store
