The first episode of "Ninja Dino Showdown" proves a clear winner thanks to its active take on Tower Defense, a very cool class change system and a surprisingly meaty campaign.

It's almost too bad "Wild Defense" hit the App Store at a point when the Tower Defense genre - like so many others on this platform - has been pretty much beaten to death. Its approach is very competently executed but too by-the-book to excite those who aren't already diehard Tower Defense fans in search of their latest fix.
The slicing genre may compete with the endless runner for most worn-out concept on iOS, but "Zombie Samurai" is a compelling package thanks to the way it marries the depth of the Castle Defense genre with swipe-at-everything gameplay.
