Spilt Milk Studios Unveil Their Next Game, Smash The Block

In a recent interview with IndieGames, Spilt Milk Studios’ Andrew Smith dished out the goods on a planned follow-up to last year’s breakout hit Hard Lines.

The next title from this up-and-coming indie studio will be a Breakout/Arkanoid-style block breaking game that “brings the classic bat-and-paddle gameplay of arcades gone by into your pocket!” It goes by the pretty self-explanatory name of Smash The Block and looks like it’s going to be a heck of a lot of brightly-colored fun.

While, in the aforementioned interview, Andrew is quick to point out he doesn’t just want to be known as “the guy that does cool riffs on classic old games,” it does sound as if Spilt Milk Studios aren’t quite ready to shrug off their modus operandi of revamping classic gameplay formulae just yet.

And who can blame them? After all, Hard Lines‘ quirky take on the granddaddy of mobile games, Snake, proved a hit to the tune of a trifle over 300k downloads.

However, it will be interesting to see if Andrew and co. can replicate the same irresistible sense of fun, personality and charm this time around. Here’s hoping they at least manage to cram a few hysterical one liners or taunts in there somewhere, eh folks?

It probably goes without saying, but we’ll be keeping a watchful eye on this one as it hurtles toward its (tentative) March release date, so expect more news, screenshots and a video or two as they leak out from Spilt Milk Studios in the coming weeks and months. In the meantime, watch out for updates on the game’s official site (where they’re also teasing another upcoming game) and Spilt Milk Studios’ super-busy Twitter feed.
