Gah! Just my luck. Mere days after I finally give into the hype and purchase the first episode of Camouflaj’s République at full whack, Apple decide to select the game as their Free App of the Week. Still, I actually don’t feel shortchanged at all — République is so damn good, it’s an essential download no matter the price.

République, just in case you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past year or so, is a Kickstarter-funded tactical stealth game that sees you helping a young woman, Hope, escape from a 1984-inspired dystopia by hacking into the nation’s surveillance system and turning the evil Overseer’s tools of oppression against him. Since its release, République has generated an immense amount of critical praise for its uniquely powerful storytelling, striking, console-quality visuals, flawless controls, and high-caliber voice acting from a cast that includes David Hayter (Metal Gear Solid) and Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect).

Download République on the App Store. (Episode 2 is also available as a $4.99 IAP or as part of the game’s discounted Season Pass, while the third episode is currently slated for a release later this summer.)
