‘Project Godus’ by Peter Molyneux and 22Cans Reaches its Lofty Kickstarter Goal!

Peter Molyneux – creator of games such as: Populous, Syndicate, Theme Park, Magic Carpet, Dungeon Keeper, Black and White, and the Fable series – has just finished the funding stage of his own crowd funded iOS game: Project Godus. Raising an amount that nearly equates to $850k, the handsomely funded project has met nearly all of the stretch goals listed on its Kickstarter page. The game, judging from the released proof of concept test video, looks to be a spiritual sequel to Populous using the advances and benefits of the modern technology now currently available.

For those of you not familiar with the game that first made Peter Molyneux famous, Populous was a game where a fledgling God – beginning with only two worshippers to his name – would perform miracles and shape the landscape such that his people would raise to success over all of the other tribes present. Project Godus – thank to generous funding – will also feature 3 different single player modes, both competitive and co-operative multiplayer options, an optional first person mode during world crafting, a story written by James Leach (BAFTA Award winner), as well as deeply integrated social interaction features. It is suspected that iOS gamers everywhere will begin to amass their flock of worshippers, so as to increase the abilities of their divine powers, sometime in September of next year.
