Like most of you, I’m sure, I’ve been excitedly awaiting further details since I heard that Nintendo was teaming up with DeNA and getting into the mobile gaming business. And today brings… well, not news, exactly… but a confirmation that the first game to come out of the Nintendo/DeNA partnership is still on track to release sometime in the very near future.

Speaking onstage yesterday at GamesBeat 2015 in San Francisco, DeNA West chief executive officer Shintaro Asako had this to say about the eagerly anticipated title: “Soon, we should be able to announce the game.”

Gah! “Soon” is such a fluid word, he could mean next week or next month. A previous announcement did promise the first Nintendo-branded mobile game would be out by the end of 2015 though, so — seeing as we’re roughly midway through October already — we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer for it.

At this point, not much is known about Nintendo and DeNA’s upcoming slate of iOS/Android games (they plan on releasing a total of five between now and 2017), other than the fact that they will be “completely new experiences” rather than ports of existing titles. But hey, I guess we’ll find out more “soon.”
