Will the Recently Announced ‘Sonic Mania’ Come to iOS?

So perhaps you’ve heard that SEGA is planning to debut an all-new sprite-based Sonic the Hedgehog game, featuring a collage of brand-new and fully-remixed levels, and perhaps you figured this was a somewhat cheap way to honor Sonic’s 25th Anniversary. Although I can certainly understand why you might’ve felt that way, seeing as how Sonic’s 20th Anniversary was met with the legendary Sonic Generations, I think you might want to personally watch that trailer for yourself. Did your perhaps notice the name of Christian Whitehead flash by, the same man whom single-handedly delivered the amazing — oftentimes even improved — iOS ports of various Sonic the Hedgehog greats?

I guess now we realize why Christian Whitehead has been a fair-bit late in bringing mobile-users everywhere that enhanced-port of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 he teased during the updated Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s (our review) perfect-ending. This new Sonic Mania looks like ready to be something truly amazing, especially when you view it with the knowledge that someone with a deep-passion for SEGA’s blue-blur is helming this ship. Perhaps the only thing I can find truly wrong with all of this otherwise-amazing news is that Christian Whitehead’s latest upcoming Sonic Masterpiece hasn’t yet been confirmed for mobile-platforms everywhere.

I wouldn’t worry about this too much — however — seeing as how various major Sonic releases have eventually found their way to the mobile-marketplace, such as Sonic the Hedgehog 4, even when they weren’t initially announced with such intentions.
