‘Hyper Beam’ Hits the App Store Next Week

Rinikulous Games, the two-man indie team behind critical smash Lonely Sun, are gearing up for a return to the App Store next week with their second game, Hyper Beam.

I’ve been playtesting a pre-release build of Hyper Beam for the past few days, and I’m pleased to report it’s an absolute blast and extremely entertaining. I think I might even like it more than Lonely Sun, but that’s hard to say, because they’re very different games. Whereas Lonely Sun is a wonderfully artsy rumination on life’s complicated nature that requires a lot of patience and perseverance to play through to completion, Hyper Beam is all about instantaneous pulse-pounding excitement and addictive high-score chasing action.

Set in the midst of a crazy interstellar war, Hyper Beam sees you controlling two circular space crafts at the same time and attempting to survive for as long as possible against an endless onslaught of enemies. Your ships’ only weapon is the energy beam that links them together, so the idea is to quickly zap around the screen frying enemies while dodging their attacks. There is quite a bit more to the game than that, but I guess I should probably hold off on saying anything else until we’ve had a chance to review it!

Hyper Beam is scheduled to arrive on the App Store next week, and our review will be up here shortly thereafter. You should definitely check both out.
