‘Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories’ Just Hit the App Store

For the past few months, there have been rumors circulating on various sites that yet another classic GTA game would be getting iOS-ified in time for Christmas. And now it’s official, with Rockstar today releasing a remastered and enhanced edition of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories for iPhone and iPad.

This iOS version of Liberty City Stories isn’t a mere straight port of the 2005 PSP original — or indeed the PS2 reissue — but instead it’s a serious upgrade with new features including touch-based controls and MFi gamepad support, vastly improved visuals, cross-platform cloud saves, and more. Newer iDevices also get fancy-schmancy stuff like 60 FPS gameplay and 3D Touch integration.

Liberty City Stories is actually the only PSP/PS2 era GTA I didn’t get around to playing back in the day, so I’m really looking forward to picking this up later as an early Christmas present to myself. If, like me, you’re going to be experiencing Liberty City Stories for the first time on iOS, be sure to check out the official blurb and trailer below to get a better idea of what it’s all about before mashing the ‘buy now’ button.

In Liberty City Stories, former trusted wise guy for the Leone crime family, Toni Cipriani returns home after spending time in hiding for killing a made man. Now, the streets of Liberty City are in turmoil, as warring families vie for control and the town begins to self-destruct under waves of political corruption, organized crime, drug trafficking and union strikes. Deranged hit men, morally depraved tycoons, cynical politicians and even his own mother stand in the way as Toni tries to bring the city under Leone family control.
